Town Guard

What is the Town Guard?

The goal of the Town Guard is to protect your town in the Clash of Clans game. To protect it, you will need to stay active and online yourself . This can be a difficult task when taking a shower, going to school or work and when you are sleeping. Generally in these situations either your phone will timeout or you will get the "Is anyone still there...?" message after 5 minutes.

The Town Guard is able to keep you logged in and active when it is enabled. This will prevent anyone from attacking you. This program gives you NO special powers neither will it enable you to manipulate the game. All help and features that this program provides can also be obtained by staying active in the game yourself.

If you do not require sleep and have the strength of mind to touch the screen at least once every 5 minutes 24/7 then you will not need this program. In all other cases this program will help you out big time.

How to use the Town Guard?

There are different modes, each provides a various options in which to run this program (each mode is described below). For the basic program there are several predetermined settings, in the full version you are given more freedom to set options to fit your need. Also the full version will let you return to the game instantly by tapping the screen (instead of closing and restarting).

Several modes are added. For example, you can choose to run in Boss mode, this will keep you active in game but will turn down your screen completely (don't forget to turn down your sound) and will close the game when the screen is touched. This can be useful when at work/school and you don't want your boss/teacher (or some other annoying person) to see that you are running a game.

Operation modes and information

Pre-sleep checklist

The buttons are not working but are placed to remind the user of important tasks. For example it is important to not forget to plug in the charger. Clash of Clans is a big energy drain, and although the screen might be dark the program still needs to keep the game active. Failing to charge your phone might cause the battery to run out and your wake up alarm will not go off in that case.

Quick start mode

Starts the game and waits 15 seconds before strongly dimming the screen. The 15 second delay is to give confidence to the user that the game is really running (more important when running the Boss/work mode). In this mode, despite the dimming, it is still possible to see the actual game being active.

This is a useful mode when actively attacking, each time you need to train troops you can enable this and check back in 15 minutes or whenever your troops are done training. In the free version this mode has a cap of 6 hours in a row. There is no limit on the amount of times the Town Guard can be started. In the Elite Town Guard there will be no time based cap.

Delayed start mode

Using this mode will delay the start of the Town Guard. You can use your phone normally in the specified time and the Town Guard will auto start when the time entered has passed. The only current restriction is to not hit the power button (standby) as this will freeze the cpu and it will prevent the launch.

This is useful when you still have a shield when you go to bed. This way you can extend the 6 hour cap to 8 hours if you have a shield of 2 hours. In the free version the Delayed start mode will have a cap of 2 hours.

When using this mode one needs to enter the remaining shield duration, or some other criterion. The program will then wait until the time indicated has passed and then start Clash of Clans with the quick mode settings.

Fully dark background

Similar to the Quick start mode but with a completely dark background. You can use the sound of the game to verify that it is running.

Unstable internet mode

Created as I had a poor wireless internet connection and the game would drop several times per minute. This greatly increases the programs ability to detect when the connection is lost (rather than being able to play on whilst disconnected, finding that most of your orders haven't got through).

The drawback is that it uses slightly more battery and bandwidth. Also increases the footprint left behind by the Town Guard. Avoid using this mode if possible.

Unavoidables

  • When you are continuously online the game will kick you for 5 minutes. The Town Guard will not be able to protect you then. It will reactivate automatically when this time has passed. Nothing but a shield will protect you and buying a shield in game will come with a huge down time. A 2 day shield can only be bought once every 10 days. This shield will protect you for 20%(+regular shield) of the time. Purchasing a shield will render you unable to attack without losing the shield. The Town Guard will protect you for 100% when online for less than 8 hours and over 99.985% (5 minutes/8 hours) over a period more than 8 hours. An attack in those 5 minutes is still possible though. More importantly the Town Guard will allow attacks and will thus boost your income significantly with respect to the purchasable shields.
  • As far as I know the activity the Town Guard generates is not distinguishable from the real human activity. It can however happen that the game is updated and the Town Guard will not function properly. I will try to find a way around this, but I cannot guarantee that I will be able (/have time) to do so. There are only so many ways to keep the game online without having to root your device.
  • Clash of Clans is a heavy game. It uses a lot of power and your phone will become warm. Using the Town Guard will not change this, in order to function the game must be kept alive and as such your phone must perform the corresponding amount of work. The only benefit is that the screen can darkened. These effects will differ for every phone try not to bury your phone in a pile of junk.
